ATTENDANCE

Attendance is one of the major barriers to learning and can often stop a child fulfilling their potential. We want to support all of our children in making the most of their learning time and ensuring that this is a priority for all families. Your child’s education is very important and their attendance and punctuality impacts dramatically on their attainment. Research shows that children with less than 90% attendance are less likely to reach their full potential. Anything below 90% deems children to be a persistent absentee.

Weekly Attendance Awards

Each week we calculate attendance for each class and share this with parents through our newsletter. Classes choose a prize from our 'Cat in a Hat' each Monday in assembly, including extra playtimes, extra story or art time.

Improving Attendance Scheme

In school we run several initiatives to help improve attendance for all pupils. One of these is our Improving Attendance Scheme which is run by Mr. Laing, our Learning Mentor.

If a child's attendance is below 90% they will be added to the scheme, with details below as to how this works:

• Children will ‘check in’ every morning with Mr. Laing (Learning Mentor) on their way to class. For children in Years 1 and 2, Mr. Laing will visit the classrooms for ‘check in’.

• Children with 100% attendance during the week will have opportunity to take part in a special activity during Friday afternoon.

In addition to this we present additional prizes for those children whose attendance improves considerably over the year.

If improvements are not made during the term, parents are invited to a meeting held with representatives from the school. This may lead to a pre court meeting before a penalty notice being issued.
